Brushing
It would be best to brush your dog every day, but sometimes we are not able to. Short
haired dogs must be brushed at least twice a week. If your dog has medium or long hair
it must be brushed more often. Brushing not only keeps your dog cleaner and smelling
better, but it is one of the ways to tell your dog that you are his friend. Doggy friends
groom each other with their teeth. People show their pets that they love them by keeping
their coats nice and clean with a brush and comb.
Some breeds of dogs, such as a poodle, need to be
taken to a person called a groomer to help take care of
their coat. Star is a miniature poodle. Her coat needs to
be trimmed every 5-6 weeks. If you don't want to take
your dog to a groomer and there is no one in your family
that can trim a dog like Star, then you shouldn't get a
poodle. Many other breeds of dogs also need a special
person to take care of their coats. Before getting a new
puppy, find out what type of coat he or she will have as an
adult. Each type of coat needs a different type of brush to
keep it nice.
