Classifications of Hurricanes Category 1 Winds 74 - 95 MPH Minimal: Danger for unanchored mobile homes, trees, and loose articles. Category 2 Winds 96 - 110 MPH Moderate: Damage to all mobile homes, roofs, small craft, and danger from flooding. Category 3 Winds 111 - 130 MPH Extensive: Damage to small buildings, low-lying roads underwater. Category 4 Winds131 - 155 MPH Extreme: Roofs destroyed, trees down, roads cut off, mobile homes destroyed, beach homes flooded. Category 5 Winds more than 155 MPH Catastrophic: Most buildings destroyed, vegetation destroyed, major roads cut off, homes flooded. |
